Financiando as belas artes: tendências internacionais político-econômicas de 1984, 2001 e 2016

Por mais de 30 anos, as belas artes o beaux arts, tem competido por financiamento público com uma cada vez melhor organizada e potencialmente mais rentável indústria das artes do entretenimento e com umas politicamente mais aceitáveis artes amateur e patrimoniais, especialmente a os níveis regionais e locais. Em parte, isto reflexa a percepção pública das belas artes como elitistas, em uma sociedade autoconscientemente igualitária, enquanto sua ala experimental ou vanguardista é vista como implacavelmente crítica com os poderes estabelecidos, sejam culturais, económicos ou políticos, convidando a perguntar: por quê deveria o governo financiar a seus críticos? e o que se deve fazer para que as belas artes possam ser reavivadas em uma economia global cada vez mais baseada em conhecimento?
